MSP customer: Best practices guide

Account setup and configuration

  • Set up portal name: Choose a unique portal name during account creation. This name cannot be changed later and is used for customized domain access to your monitoring portal.
  • Verify contact information: Ensure your primary contact information (email and phone number) is accurate and promptly verified. This is critical for receiving alerts, reports, and other important communications.
  • Complete verification promptly: Verify your email and phone number through the links sent by Site24x7 after account creation.
  • Check the language and time zone: Confirm the preferred language and correct time zone are selected to align alerts, reports, and dashboards with your location.
  • Activate a white-labeled portal: Access the monitoring console only via the custom login URL provided by your MSP (for example, https://custom.app/login/zylker).
    Note

    White-labeled portals provide read-only access.

  • Monitoring setup: MSP customers can only view and monitor based on the configuration accomplished by the MSP admin.
  • Reports and monitor details: Customers can generate reports and view detailed monitor information as provided through the portal.

Security and access management

  • Complete MFA Setup (if applicable): If your MSP enforces multi-factor authentication, complete the setup to avoid login issues.
  • Align branding with your organization: Ensure white-labeled portal elements like logos and names match your internal brand standards.
  • Review user roles and permissions: Regularly check the Users and Alerts tab to understand the role and who else has access to the account. If you see anything that needs to be changed, contact your MSP admin to make adjustments.

Monitoring and configuration

  • Set up configurations before adding monitors: Ensure your MSP admin configures all necessary profiles, such as alert thresholds and notification rules, before adding your monitors. This streamlines the deployment process and ensures consistent settings across your infrastructure.
  • Switch between accounts quickly: MSP customers can easily switch between multiple customer applications using the drop-down menu located at the top-left corner of the page.
  • Leverage dashboards and reports: Use dashboards for real-time insights and schedule reports to track performance trends.
  • Monitor advisor recommendations: The Advisor module helps you receive proactive, actionable, and personalized recommendations.
  • Reports: MSP customers can view and access all available reports.
  • Monitoring setup: The MSP technician configures the monitoring based on data provided by the MSP customers. All customers have read-only access to the monitors.
  • Readiness and prerequisite: Before creating monitors, MSP customers must have access to the user agent to install On-Premise Pollers and other required servers.

Subscription and usage awareness

  • Understand your plan: Familiarize yourself with the features, monitor limits, and alert credits available in your current subscription.
  • Monitor usage: View the License Usage Summary to ensure you're within your allocated limits and avoid exceeding your subscription. For MSP customers , license allocation and management will be handled by the MSP provider .
  • Coordinate with MSP for upgrades: If scaling is anticipated, proactively discuss upgrade needs with your MSP.
  • Report discrepancies: Immediately notify your MSP if there are inconsistencies in subscription, credits, or account details.

Communication and notifications

  • Enable notifications: Opt-in for product updates, feature releases, maintenance alerts, and platform status messages.
  • Stay informed: Use communication from Site24x7 and your MSP to stay ahead of planned outages or upcoming enhancements.
  • Inherit MSP-level settings: All settings configured at the MSP level—including integrations—are automatically applied to your customer accounts, ensuring consistent configurations. Customers can override these settings as needed.
